Everything started with a new apartment. When two households were merged into one, a large number of books and compact discs had to be accommodated. To that end Irina Jurasic and Francesco Apuzzo designed two shelf versions, made of sheet steel, in 2004. Met with enthusiasm by friends and acquaintances, the production of the first batch became possible. With demand increasing in the following months, the two architects decided to found a firm for the manufacturing and distribution of their designs. In 2005, linea1 was established in Berlin.
A third shelf type for ring binders came next, followed by a lamp, a magazine rack, a coat rack, and a table. The centrally located showroom in Berlin displays the collection since 2006. Ten years after the first series for friends, linea1 products are available in all of Germany and in selected stores in other European countries.
The development of new designs is guided by personal interests. Its progress towards a convincing, finished product is not always straightfoward and follows its own pace. Exchanging ideas with the manufacturing shops in Berlin plays a significant role in this course: their expertise and state-of-the- art technology provide valuable stimuli for optimization and practicality. Francesco Apuzzo and Irina Jurasic oversee and adapt the fabrication process until a product finally fulfills the demands of highly precise workmanship.
